Stamp Size Photo Maker
Create a 20 × 25 mm (236 × 295 px) stamp-size photo from your own picture — the small ID-photo size commonly requested on Indian and South Asian forms and certificates. Face detection, cropping and export all run in your browser.
This page makes a 20 × 25 mm (236 × 295 px) colour stamp-size photo for forms, certificates and applications that ask for one.
Background: the background must be white. The tool does not change the background for this document (the official source does not allow edited photos), so take the photo against a suitable plain wall.
The photo is too close. Retake it with more space around your head (above the hair, at the sides and down to the shoulders) so it can be cropped to the required size.
Background replacement is off for this document: the official source does not allow edited photos. Take the photo against a suitable plain wall.
Optional. A one-time download of about 16 MB, then the background is replaced with the required colour on your device. Your photo is not uploaded.
Red line = top of the hair, blue = eyes, green = chin. Drag a line onto the right spot, or use its ▲ ▼ buttons; the crop refits. Drag anywhere else to move the photo. The green band shows where the chin must end, the blue band where the eyes must be.
The tool only checks the size and position of the head. It does not check glasses, expression, background or lighting.
The guidelines give a digital size only, so this page makes the upload photo (236 × 295 px) and no print sheet.
Guide lines are an aid, not a check by any authority. Always compare the result with the official requirements linked below.
Stamp-size photo requirements
| Printed size | Not a formal part of the stamp-size convention; this tool gives the digital size (236 × 295 px) only. |
|---|---|
| Head height (chin to top of hair) | This convention asks for a close-up in which the face takes up 80–85% of the photograph, showing the full head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin. The tool reads this as the head height being 80–85% of the photo height (236–251 px of 295). |
| Background | White |
| Digital file from this tool | 236 × 295 px JPEG |
| Editing | Not allowed by the official source (background replacement is off) |
| Print sheet from this tool | Not offered. The guidelines give a digital size only, so this page makes the upload photo (236 × 295 px) and no print sheet. |
Common stamp-size photo rules
- Colour photograph, 236 × 295 pixels (20 × 25 mm).
- Close-up of the head and top of the shoulders; the face takes up 80–85% of the photograph.
- Full head shown, from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin; head centred and not tilted.
- White background, with no distracting shadows on the face or in the background.
- Full face, front view, looking directly at the camera, eyes open and clearly visible, no hair across the eyes.
- Mouth not open; natural expression and natural skin tones.
- Uniform lighting, appropriate brightness and contrast, no shadows, flash reflections or red eye; not blurred.
- Glasses taken off to avoid reflections.
- Head coverings only for religious reasons, with the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges of the face clearly shown.
- Taken from about 1.5 m from the camera (not too close), and unaltered by computer software.
How to use the tool
- Take a front-facing photo in even light against a plain wall, or pick an existing one.
- Upload it. The tool finds your face, eyes and chin, and crops the photo to 236 × 295 px.
- Check the red line sits on the very top of your hair (not your forehead) and the green line on your chin. Drag a line to correct it; the crop refits automatically.
- When the head position is within range and you have ticked the confirmation box, download the digital photo. If the tool says the photo is too close, retake it with more space around your head.
Common mistakes that lead to rejection
- Keeping glasses on — remove glasses to avoid reflections, since many organisations that request a stamp-size photo ask for a clear, unobstructed face.
- Hair falling across the eyes, or a head covering that hides the chin, forehead or either edge of the face.
- Smiling, raised eyebrows or an open mouth.
- Shadows on the face or on the wall behind you, or flash reflections and red-eye from on-camera flash.
- Head too small or too large in the frame — the face should fill 80–85% of the photo, measured from the top of the hair to the chin, not from the forehead.
- Standing too close to the camera, so the top of the head or the shoulders are cut off; shoot from about 1.5 m away for a clean close-up.
- Tilted head or looking away from the camera.
- Busy or coloured background instead of a plain white wall.
- Editing the photo with filters or retouching apps — the guidelines ask for photos unaltered by computer software.
